Torre Pali

Mikao Apartment: waking up just 300 metres from the sea

Torre Pali takes its name from a 16th-century watchtower built during Spanish rule to defend the coast from Saracen pirate raids. Today, the tower rises directly from the sea, just a few metres from the shoreline, in a setting that is hard to forget.

History tells us that when it was built, the tower stood on dry land, but over the centuries coastal erosion caused the sea to advance until it completely surrounded it. The result is one of the most photographed landscapes in Salento: a medieval ruin rising from shallow, transparent water, almost reachable on foot on calm sea days.

Not far from the tower is the Isola della Fanciulla, a small rocky formation linked to an ancient local legend, an ideal destination for a short swim or for those who want to go snorkelling in Torre Pali among seabeds rich in sea urchins and molluscs.

What to do in Torre Pali

More than just the beach

Torre Pali is not just about the beach. From the small tourist harbour, boat trips along the Ionian coast and towards the caves of Leuca depart, and it is also possible to rent boats without a boating licence to explore the coastline independently. The equipped beach clubs concentrated in the southern area of the marina, towards Pescoluse, organise sports activities, aquagym classes, and entertainment during the season.

In the evening, some of them turn into venues with music, sunset aperitifs, and dance nights. For those who like to explore, Torre Pali is also an ideal starting point for reaching the nearby seaside towns: Pescoluse is about 4 km away, Torre Vado is 7 km to the south, while heading north along the Ionian coast you will find Lido Marini and Torre San Giovanni. Santa Maria di Leuca, the southernmost point of Puglia, is only 15 km away.

Staying at Mikao Apartment means having all this within easy reach, without giving up the peace and quiet of a seaside village that still manages to remain on a human scale.
