Gallipoli

Beaches, historic centre, and nightlife

From Mikao Apartment to Gallipoli, it takes about 35 minutes by car.

It is the most well-equipped and lively destination within easy reach of the property, offering the full package: historic centre, beaches, seafood cuisine, nightlife, and a few surprises for those travelling with children.

Known as the Beautiful City, Gallipoli is one of the most fascinating destinations in Salento: crystal-clear waters, fine sandy beaches, and a historic centre rich in monuments, traditions, and typical local venues. Its name says it all: it comes from the Greek Kallipolis, meaning beautiful city.

The historic centre and the beaches

The city is divided into two areas: the charming historic centre of Gallipoli, set on a limestone island, and the new town, connected by a 17th-century masonry bridge. Getting lost among the narrow streets of the historic centre is one of the most enjoyable things you can do in Gallipoli: there is the Cathedral of Sant’Agata, a masterpiece of Salento Baroque, the Angevin-Aragonese Castle overlooking the sea, artisan workshops, fry shops, and fresh fish restaurants.

The walls of the old town offer one of the most beautiful sunsets in Salento, with the sun setting directly over the Ionian Sea. The beaches of Gallipoli are just as varied: Spiaggia della Purità lies at the foot of the old town, nestled between the historic walls; Baia Verde is the liveliest beach, with equipped beach clubs, music, and aperitifs by the sea; Punta della Suina, within the Regional Natural Park, offers a more natural setting with small bays and coves surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, with shallow sandy seabeds often compared to a tropical beach.

Splash Acqua Park and nightlife

For those travelling with children, or simply for anyone looking for a day away from the beach, Gallipoli has one more card to play. Splash Acquapark, located in a strategic position near the centre, offers wave pools, lazy rivers, slides of all kinds, and dedicated children’s areas, all spread across more than 78,000 square metres surrounded by greenery.

Next to the water park is the Fabilandia amusement park, with trampolines, water bumper cars, inflatable areas, and much more: a whole day may not be enough.

In the evening, Gallipoli turns into the capital of Salento nightlife: the beach clubs of Baia Verde become open-air discos, the seafront fills with people, and the venues in the historic centre of Gallipoli stay open until late at night.

For those staying in one of the apartments in Torre Pali at Mikao Apartment and looking to experience at least one evening out of the ordinary, Gallipoli is the right answer.
